QPR manager Mark Hughes has said that he is looking forward to much better performances in the future from former Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips.
The former Chelsea and Manchester City winger arrived from Manchester City in the summer for around £ 3 million. However, Neil Warnock has not been able to get the best out of the former England winger largely because of the position he was used.
Following the sacking of Neil Warnock, QPR appointed former Manchester City manager Mark Hughes. Mark Hughes has now said that QPR fans can now see the best of Shaun Wright-Phillips due to the fact that he will be played in his favourite position.
Shaun Wright-Phillips has failed to score in 22 appearances for QPR this season. Mark Hughes has said that one of his biggest tasks at QPR is to bring out the best in Shaun Wright-Phillips. At one point SWP was a certainty to make the England team (and the best Euro 2012 betting had him as odds-on to make the squad) but his performances since the turn of the year have seen him start to slip from grace.
In order to do that, Shaun Wright-Phillips will be used in his favourite position according to Mark Hughes. Mark Hughes is credited with bringing out the best in Shaun Wright-Phillips during his time at Manchester City. However, the current Manchester city manager Roberto Mancini has failed to recognise the talent behind Shaun Wright-Phillips.
“I think Shaun’s doing okay. In fairness I probably haven’t been able to play him in his most preferred position, which is wide right. I’ve moved him around, I’ve played him in the middle and I’ve predominantly started him on the left. He’s got enough ability to be able to adapt so I’ve been pleased with that,” said Hughes.
QPR are currently struggling in the bottom end of the table, despite bringing in a number of strong players during the January transfer window. They are currently in the 16th position in the table, with 21 points on the board.
