The manager of Queens Park Rangers, Harry Redknapp, has made it clear that Shaun Wright Phillips will not be able to play any more matches in the remaining part of this season.
Phillips featured for QPR in 22 matches this season. The last time that he featured for the Rangers was in a Premier League match against Sunderland in March. QPR had won that match by 3-1.
Phillips has recently gone through a surgery of his ankle and that’s why, he has been ruled out for a few months.
Talking to the reporters about Phillip’s injury, Redknapp said, “He recently had a surgery and he needed that. That ankle was troubling him right from the start of the season, but, he kept playing with that. He played in some matches after taking pain killers. But, it got worse and worse.”
“He wanted to go through the surgery after the end of the season, but, the condition of his ankle became so bad that he couldn’t even take part in training sessions. So, he decided to have the surgery now.”
“I think he should be fit at the start of the next season. He has been asked to rest completely for a couple of months and then, he will begin light training.”
Phillips himself also made it clear via Twitter that his surgery had been completed and it went smoothly. The 31 years old English winger also wrote on his Twitter account that he wanted to thank all his supporters for their good wishes.
There was also a photo uploaded by Phillips in which his ankle was heavily bandaged.
This was Phillip’s second season for QPR. He had signed for them in August 2011 after leaving Manchester City. Earlier in this season, he scored his first ever goal for QPR against Chelsea.
